IT’S TRAVEL THURSDAY!!! And I want to talk all about Museums. Okay, let’s be honest traveling is so much fun. Especially if you get to learn about another culture, people, or place. One of my favorite places to visit when I travel are museums. I know that makes me somewhat of a nerd but I am just being true to me.

Museums are amazing. They are full of culture, art, music, and something new to learn. The best part about it is that museums are not just for children anymore. So this week we are talking about the top 4 cultural Museums you must visit.

Before I throw you into a world of art, history, and possibly science I want to give you a few tips. Before you decide you are going to a museum I want you to take a deep breath, look down, and check to see what shoes you got on. I am serious. Depending on the size of the museum you will end up doing a lot of walking. So be prepared to walk and make sure you wear comfortable shoes.

National Museum of African American History and Culture In Washington, DC

The Washington Monument and National Museum of African American History and Culture at night, in Washington, DC.

A must-visit museum on my bucket list is the National Museum of African American and culture. The museum is in its third year. A museum that is part of the Smithsonian Institute is a trip worthy visit. Their motto is:

a people’s journey and a nation’s story.

Their featured exhibit is musical crossroads where they take you back in time and into the present. Allowing you to explore all of the contributions that African Americans have made to the musical world. They even feature an exhibit celebrating and teaching how religion and black power interconnect with each other. And play a role in African American culture. With all these cool things and more this museum is a must go.

Center For Civil And Human Rights in Atlanta ,Georgia

The Top 4 Cultural Museums You Must Visit

I have personally visited the Center for civil and Human Rights in Atlanta, Georgia check out the highlights here. The Center beautifully takes you back to the civil rights era. Allowing you to experience what it must have been like and felt like during one of our nations revolutionary times. Walking through the exhibits and hearing the cries and the voices of our nations strongest historic leaders. Will really open your eyes to the fight our ancestors fought. While giving us the appreciation for the freedom that we enjoy today.

Whether you are white or black this is the museum for everyone. Not only does it do an amazing job shedding the light on what the civil rights was all about. It takes it one step further tying shedding light on injustices everywhere. Reminding us of the letter from Birmingham Jail that still resounds today “injustice her is a threat to justice everywhere.”

National Museum of the American Indian in New York, New York

The National Museum of the American Indian is located within the historic Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House.

The Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian is an amazing museum that we should all visit. Here is why I think so. This museum shed a light on one of Americas most talked-about people group but the most overlooked. As a woman of color, I think it is important that we know the struggles of the other minority people groups around us. If I expect someone to honor my struggle I would like to honor there’s as well.

For this reason alone this Museum made the cute of my Top 4 cultural Museums you must visit. They offer two locations. One in New York and one in Washington DC. Admission is often free but don’t forget to check out their website to make sure. Also, check out their website to see what exhibit each state has to offer. When I went to the one in New York it was offering an exhibit showcasing fashion inspired by Native culture. It was pretty cool.
