A plus-size fashion designer you should know about is Dee Moore.

In a world where being “fat” is shamed, plus-size designer Dee Moore created a brand that curvy women can be proud of. As her event planner, I was amazed at how she was able to curate events that not only showcased beautiful voluptuous women while making them feel good. Models from all over the country come to model for her show Glamour, Glitz, and Curves.  That is why she is a plus-size fashion designer you should know about.

Dee’s mission is to:

“empower and inspire plus-size and big and tall individuals to be their best selves through addressing how to overcome body obstacles and developing strong, body-positive advocacy for all.”

I am FAT, Fashionable and Thick

Dee Started Fashionable and Thick back in 2012 as a T-shirt line, created with one goal in mind. The word FAT, although small in letter count, the word packs a huge punch. A word that is significant to all who struggle with their size. Fat is not always verbally repeated per se. However most it is most impactful non-verbally, from the looks one receives from peers and others alike.

Social media has become a free target comedy show; one attraction and many hateful words. At a young age, developing low self-esteem could potentially be detrimental to adulthood. Dee’s vision is to rid the world of negative connotations because of one’s size. As a voluptuous woman herself, all her life she had to face limitations of her worthiness and potential. Interestingly enough, these were not limitations she placed on herself. She felt they were forced upon her by society. Dee refuses to wear the fat jacket! She proudly states:

“I am FAT, Fashionable and Thick”.

The Dorcas Collection

Consequently, for that reason, she gave rise to her signature line, The Dorcas Collection. This line offers a place for customers to find unique and timeless pieces for curvy women. Of course, this collection is my favorite. The pieces are so exquisite and most of them you can wear to work and then to happy hour. The versatility of the pieces and how well they fit each woman is amazing. Also, the Dorcas Collection was showcased on the runway of the 2018 Full Figured Fashion Week. The great thing about this line is there is something for everyone. I was so excited to see her pieces there.

I love Dee’s style and how she speaks up for the curvy women and the big and tall men. What’s amazing is how she started her business as a t-shirt line but in turn, became an entire movement and not just a brand. It’s awesome how Dee carefully thinks about what message she wants to say on each shirt design. She wants to make sure that we plus size women will be comfortable yet heard.

You Do Belong

When a customer shops with her, Dee wants them to know they are enough, and she is advocating for them. In her words, “You do belong, and you are enough!” Dee wrote a book entitled, “Life Support for the Curvy Female”.

Although she started as an online store, Dee doesn’t consider the FAT Brand a boutique. She has worked hard to turn the brand into a non-profit organization. This is monumental because she not only sells beautiful clothes, but she has created programs to help the younger generation not be ashamed of being who they are.
