Sistahs are doing it for themselves!!!! And by that I mean, we are starting and running successful businesses on our own. That’s exactly what the Sistahs in Business Expo is all about. What is the Sistahs in Business Expo? Well, it’s the country’s only multi-city small business expo with an intentional focus on entrepreneurial women of color (the nation’s largest and fastest growing demographic of entrepreneurs).   SIB Expo provides an accessible platform where women of color can significantly expand their reach and grow their businesses.

There were so many amazing conversations and panel discussions that took place. First up was the “Sistahs in Media” panel featuring Jennifer Ogunsola, Malinda Williams, Shari’ Nycole, and Jae Nash. These ladies discussed the hows of building a brand beyond the TV screen.

The next group of panelists were a group of women who have been hugely successful authors. The “Authorprenuer Panel” included Brittany Miller as the moderator, Crystal Perkins, Tara Seals, Genise Shelton, and Yassin Hall. These amazing women discussing the strategy behind expanding your brand through writing.

The last group of panelists dropped major gems for creating influential brands. This group included Nikki Porcher as the moderator, Dr. Felicia Phillips, Chloe Cleaves, Lillie Mae, and Casey Kelley.

In between the panelists, were two amazing keynote speakers, Dr. Lynn Richardson and Cynthia Bailey. Both of these women gave us some motivational words and quotes that are sure to get us right in our current and future businesses.

Advice from the panelists and speakers:

  1. Use your social media to position yourself as the go to person. – Dr. Phillips
  2. Let your audience know how you are different from your competitors. – Dr. Phillips
  3. Build a marketing strategy that doesn’t depend solely on social media. – Lillie Mae
  4. Create a business that can run without you. – Lillie Mae
  5. You grow the most when you’re your most uncomfortable. – Cynthia Bailey
  6. Your business should be something you’re passionate about and have fun doing. – Cynthia Bailey
  7. Don’t overwhelm yourself by trying to open up multiple businesses at once. Nurture and grow each business like you would a child before you try to start a new one. – Cynthia Bailey
