So, it seems that you have been bitten. Bit by the wanderlust bug. And now all you can think about Is getting on a plane and seeing the world. But no one wants to go with you and now you have to travel solo.
I bet you’re wondering “where should I go?” No need to fear. Your favorite travel advice giver is here, and I have the answer. Well, not all the answer just this suggestion. But if you want to take it as the answer then go ahead.
Now that the rambling is done. Here are the 6 best cities for 1st-time solo travel. There are in no particular order.
Boston, Massachusetts.
If you’re looking for history, then Boston is the place. It is the home of amazing history and it has so much character. That is why I recommend it. You will have so much to do that you will want to come back for another visit.
While you’re there go on and visit the Tea Party Museum. If you’re a history buff like me then you will enjoy seeing history jump out of your high school textbook and into the real world.
Don’t forget to walk the freedom trail and enjoy Beacon Hill. But the real fun of Boston is visiting the famous Harvard University Campus. I guarantee you will be underwhelmed. But don’t take my words for it go have fun.
New York, New York
Ever since I was young girl friends had been one of my favorite shows. Okay not really, I just didn’t have cable, so I had nothing better to watch. But I did enjoy the show. And I always wanted to go to central park. And I have to admit it is just as awesome as they say it was.
If you are a small city girl like me who want to experience the excitement of the big apple. I recommend you put New York on your solo travel list. Go ahead and stroll through central park, walk on the Manhattan bridge, and spend hours getting lost in the Metropolitan Museum.
And those are just some of the stuff that New York has to offer. It really is the big apple and boy is it fun to be in. I feel like a tourist when I go to New York and if you are anything like me you are going to enjoy it.
San Francisco, California
I have to admit San Francisco is a weird one to put on the list. But the brief time I spent there sparked a fascination that I have not been able to shake. That is why I think it will fascinate you too.
Okay so here is a little secret about me. I love going to places I see on television so I can say I saw it with my own eyes. That is why the golden gate bridge is part of my fascination with this lovely city. But what really draws you in with San Fransisco is the weather.
The city is always a nice 50 to 70 degrees year-round. Which is the perfect weather one needs to explore a city. I went there in the middle of the summer and I was pleasantly surprised at how refreshing it was to walk the streets of the city. No heat exhaustion for me. And because of the nice cool weather, I recommend this city. Plus, it does offer a lot of excitement, so you won’t be bored.
I mean it is the home of Piper, Phoebe, and Paige Halliwell. (that was a corny Charmed joke. The old one, not the crappy new one.)
Atlanta, Georgia
This is the city of all my favorite bloggers and social media celebrities. So of course, I spent a weekend there and I loved it. This city is so cute. And I think it should be a place you visit.
It is definitely a city that you will be visiting more than once on your solo travel adventures. The people, the food, and history. This city has it all.
I am from a small predominantly white town in south Florida and the first time I went to Atlanta I was overwhelmed by how many successful black man and women I saw. And for that, it made my list.
While you’re there don’t forget to visit the Center for civil and human right. It is mind opening and life-altering. Trust me you don’t want to miss it.
Orlando, Florida
I have to admit. I wanted to put a Florida city in here because its where I live. Now that we have shamed me I want to be real with you. Orlando is the bomb. Not because it has an amazing nightlife or food.
But because it is home to like all of America’s amusement parks. And while you there I recommended you visit one of those parks. Trust me it sounds weird to go to an amusement park alone. But you will love it.
Other than that Orlando is a landlocked city so there are no beaches but you will not get bored. And if the sea water is what you miss go to Sea World and have a whale splash you.
Seattle Washington
Not one person who has been Seattle, at least that I know of, who did not have anything but praise for the city. Seattle is one of those places that makes you feel good. In other words, it is one of the Hipster paradises that you have been looking for.
This city offers art, music, food, entertainment and the laid-back vibe you’ve been craving. And so much more. Seattle is a city that will keep you coming back. While you’re there on your solo travel, don’t forget to go to Washington trail association and do walk that trail.
There you have it folks, 6 best cities for solo travel. You go girl for stepping out and being brave enough to explore the world. The world is your oyster and I can’t wait for you to experience it. In the words of Maya Angelou, you are a phenomenal woman.
