Hey boo, happy TUESDAY and welcome back to my blog!! I am super excited to do another hair post – today we are talking about how SUMMER PROTECTIVE HAIRSTYLES!!
Ok ladies, let’s get into these SUMMER PROTECTIVE HAIRSTYLES
1- Priiincesss Dread-Knots
As someone with long dreads and a super busy schedule, my little dread-knots are not just my summer protective hairstyle, they are my lifesavers. They truly make running my whole life 10x easier. I literally wear them for 3-4 weeks at a time.
How to achieve the look:
- Part the hair into 2 sections.
- Take one dread, fold it in half, create a loop at the end.
- Take the hanging part and wrap it around from the roots down then close it by putting the end into the loop.
- Repeat step 3 until your entire head is done.
Nature-Inspired Products
The whole point of protective hairstyles is to protect our hair and healthy hair starts with good products. As natural hair girls, washing our hair every 3 weeks or so, we need the best of the best products. The reason why I’m currently using and loving the Nature Box™ 100% Cold Pressed Coconut Oil Shampoo & Conditioner is because it helps me achieve my little dread-knots look above. It was great for instant hydration and moisture. Their products are nature-inspired and environmentally friendly and great for all hair types.
2- Havana Twists
Listen, as black women, we just don’t have the time to do our hair every single day and miss out on all the summer fun. So, coming up with these fun protective styles is key to keeping our hair healthy AND easy to enjoy our summer to the fullest! So, for the 2nd look, I’m sharing the Havana Twists – it’s super easy to achieve, easy to maintain and OMG super CUTEEEE!!
How to achieve the look:
- First, you need hair about 6-7 packs of individual twists.
- Take a comb and part your hair into little boxes. No, they don’t have to be perfect.
- Start with the back. Take in the first part and twist it into a small 2 finger twist using the Nature Box™ Moisture Spray.
- Take each twist and install the loop into the base of the small twist you created.
- Loop it a few times until it’s secure and blend with your hair.
- Repeat 2-5 until entire head is done.
3-Braids – Plaits – Cornrows
How to achieve the look:
- You’ll need 6-8 packs of braiding hair
- Use the Nature Box™ 100% Cold Pressed Coconut Oil Shampoo & Conditioner on your hair for longer hydration. Do this especially if you’re hoping to keep the braids in for 2-3 months.
- Part your hair into 4 shaped sections with a wide-tooth comb.
- Apply the Nature Box Moisture Spray or cream to the ends of your hair to prevent frizz.
- Start with one of the shaped section; part your hair into smaller squares with the pointed end of a rat tail comb.
- Grab the amount of hair needed based on the size of the braid you want & create a loop.
- Placed the braiding hair over your natural hair starting at the root.
- Start to braid your natural hair in with the braiding hair until fully braided.
- Repeat steps 4-9 until your entire head is fully braided and perfect.
- And if you don’t want individual braids, you can add cornrows to one side.
All five product from the collections feature oils extracted from the heart of fruits and nuts by a process called cold pressing. What is Cold Pressing?
Cold pressing oils involves exerting pressure, without using excessive heat, so that the natural oils are released from the ingredients. Cold pressing involves no chemicals and no hot processes. And all the Nature Box products are made with 100% cold pressed oil from coconuts, avocados, apricots, almonds, and macadamia nuts.
I picked mine up at my local Atlanta CVS!
