How To Pick The Perfect City For a Solo Trip

3 min read

I love traveling solo. It is the best feeling in the world. The ability to go where I want, do what I want, and be by myself is just amazing to me. Being able to meet new people and just step out of my comfort zone is so exciting.  But finding the perfect city for a solo trip is actually kind of tricky. But have to fear your favorite advice giver kind of wrote you a guide. Let’s get started.

Where have you always wanted to go.

The first trick on picking the perfect city for a solo trip is to write down all the cities you have always wanted visit. I know this sounds kind of silly and you are probably wondering. “why doesn’t she just tell me where to go?” Because we are all different and want to go to different places.

For example, on my list I have every major city in America and 6 cities in Asia. I am not big on going to the Caribbean islands and I know a lot of people are. So, it is important for you to make your own decision and that starts with what you feel like are places that will interest you.

Secondly, ask yourself these simple questions

As you look at your list ask yourself if these are ideal cities to travel to alone. Look closely at your list and consider safety, time difference, and language barriers. These are important because they determine if you can travel there as a solo person or with a traveling group. You must always keep these things in mind.

Another example is that I chose the major cities in the US as my list for the next three years because I can do them by myself. I speak English, I know how to stay safe in my country, and my phone works at all times in case I need to contact my family and friends. So, I have all my bases covered.

Third, what’s your budget?

Many people make this mistake when they travel solo. They forget to set a budget and consider the money they have to spend when they are traveling. Make sure that the cities you choose are economically friendly. This way you know how your money will behave. Plus, you will know how much money you need, and planning will be easier.

Fourth, consider how familiar you are with the language, food, and culture.

Before you set out to any solo trip make sure you have considered the human barriers. These barriers are culture, language, and food. If you’re perfect city for a solo trip is outside of the US. Then you have to remember that food, culture and language is different. Even if you go to an English-speaking country you need to remember that English is not the same everywhere.

For example, I have been to the UK twice and each time I am amazed that chips actually are french fries, drink tea with milk, and Wells, England, and Scotland are three different countries. And even though all three countries speak English they sound completely different from American English.

Last but not least, your safety is your priority.

You know those YouTube videos when popular youtubers are telling a story. And the story is about how they got into a random cab and almost got kidnap? Yeah that is not cool. I always think that those stories glorify recklessness.

When you pick the perfect city to travel solo make sure it’s a safe place. Make sure that you understand the safety rules. You know the numbers to call in case of emergencies. You have your money in a safe place and so on. Don’t be like a youtuber and get into a random cab. Make sure you prioritize your safety above all else.

And there you have it folks. How to pick the perfect city for a solo trip. It is an art and you can master it.
